In 2009, a group of women jurists from the Republic of Moldova founded the Women’s Law Center, an organization that advocates for equal opportunities between women and men and contributes to the prevention and combating of family violence and gender-based violence against women. After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, CDF started the implementation in the Republic of Moldova, with financial support from CARE, through the SERA Romania Foundation, CARE France and FONPC, of the project “Emergency response for Ukraine crisis”.
Within it, five libraries from different regions of the Republic of Moldova opened their doors to refugees from Ukraine – children, women and men, to offer them a safe and friendly space in which to have access to useful information and necessary services.
Thus, information and orientation activities as well as recreational activities are organized monthly, with the aim of facilitating the social inclusion of refugees. During these meetings, 10 librarians facilitate educational, cultural and recreational activities in the library spaces, the staff being trained in the fields of humanitarian assistance, human rights, prevention of human trafficking and illegal migration, but also in accessing psychological and legal services and the information needed by the beneficiaries.
As part of the project, 109 kits with products were also offered to refugee families, based on their needs, containing hygiene products and food, including for infants, distributed in eight regions of the country: Hîncești, Căușeni, Ștefan Vodă, Soroca, Anenii Noi, Soldănești and Ialoveni.
Being also a platform for forming a network at the local level for strengthening the response to the
refugee crisis and for better coordination of actions, also within the “Emergency response for Ukraine crisis” project, five community initiatives were developed, the implementation of which will start in 2023, to ensure a synergy between the local public administration, the community and the refugees, ensuring them a climate of safety and protection.
Project funded by CARE through the SERA Romania Foundation, CARE France and FONPC.
